BBC launches weather app for iOS and Android

624There is nothing more unpredictable than the weather, as this cold spring once again proves. And the weather is as least as fickle in the United Kingdom. This proved occasion for the BBC to launch its own Weather app. Just before the start of various major British events, such as Wimbledon, Glastonbury and the Silverstone Grand Prix, the broadcast service is introducing a smartphone app for Apple and Android that provides users with “the most up-to-date weather forecasts” on demand.

The app allows you to check today’s weather forecast, including the temperature, chances of precipitation, pollen information, UV radiation, humidity and wind speed. A simple scroll bar allows you to scroll 48 hours ahead in time. It is also possible to view a weather forecast for the next five days.

The app also allows you to store your favorite locations, just like the native iOS app. What is striking, however, is the lack of an option for viewing the BBC’s latest television weather report.

According to the BBC, the past few years have seen a huge increase in mobile traffic to its online weather pages. For this reason, besides offering a responsive website, the media company deemed it important to launch an app as well.
