Everybody can improve their gardening skills with the smart Soil IQ

They say it helps if you talk to your plants. They won’t talk back, but, taking its cue from Koubachi, the smart Soil IQ sensor intends to help you with gardening or cultivating your own fruit and vegetables. Green fingers never came cheaper!

The Soil IQ is more than a compact, sleekly designed sensor. With a recommended retail price of $50, it is also a highly affordable solution. A steal, considering it has been created by design legend Yves Behar!

The Soil IQ is a spin-off by the Texan outfit Re:Char, which earlier this year entered into a partnership with telecommunications giant Orange to advance Kenyan agriculture through the use of smart sensors.

So, Soil IQ is actually the consumer variant. The sensor is capable of performing various measurements in the ground to provide you with a picture of the fertility of your garden. The Soil IQ also functions as a sort of weather station, sending the weather forecast to your phone.

Besides the hardware, the ‘package’ consists of a rather comprehensive app that provides garden fanatics with targeted advice on their flora.

It is as yet unknown when the Soil IQ will see its market launch.
